An unarmed form of combat centered on the pursuit of both technical and physical efficiency. Combat, or direct confrontation in which technique blends with sensitivity and presence of mind, and generates durable efficiency that guarantees health and well-being...
Jisei-budo (or combat taichi) is a form of taichi devised to secure immediate and durable efficiency. A good martial arts method must provide both an efficient technique that can be transposed to free combat and an energy principle that allows for practice at any age.
The structure of Jisei-budo derives from a synthesis and reworking of elements from taichi Chen, karate, kenjutsu, yi chuan and Jisei-kiko. The elements from taichi chen, karate and kenjutsu afford a technical repertoire of great effectiveness, while Jisei-kiko and yi chuan strengthen the efficiency of these techniques in terms of energy, simultaneously developing speed and explosive strength.
The practice of Jisei-budo is based on slow, supple and extremely precise exercises designed to develop the technical repertoire, speed and strength that are necessary to do well in combat. The offense, defense and displacement sequences are worked on in combination with kiko breathing, and each movement improves the flow of ki, while preserving its own technical meaning. People can train without tiring, and even increase their energy. The challenge of combat becomes something to look forward to, a good, tangible way of checking your progress. And it is a check that can be adapted to suit anyone, no matter what your age and objectives.
The array of Jisei-budo gestures and techniques is subdivided into three katas, which makes training and learning easier. The first kata is classic taichi Chen. The two others, taichi 1 and taichi 2, have been drawn from classic katas.
Each kata is in turn composed of 15 fundamental techniques directly applicable in combat exercises with and without protection. All have been developed with a view to training and enhancing technical aptitude for bare-handed percussion combat. They are highly realistic gestual schema that develop and cultivate one's agility, movements and footwork. The techniques and movements must necessarily be executed with a partner in order to gain a full comprehension of how they are really applied in combat.
