A beneficial method for everyone

The Tokitsu-ryu method is the product of 35 years of research in the field of Japanese and Chinese schools of physical training. The result of this research is a method that organically combines the 3 essential concepts underlying traditional Oriental practice: health, well-being and efficiency.

The concept of efficiency has changed compared to periods in the past when people died while still relatively young. Now that people live well into old age, their quest for efficiency continues. Accordingly, martial practice itself must evolve if it is to meet this challenge. And well-being and health take on even greater importance.
The Tokitsu-ryu method fully responds to the needs of modern life. It teaches us a better way of living in today's world.

Divided into 4 disciplines ranging from combat to the quest for well-being, the method adapts to the specific needs and expectations of each practitioner. It is accessible to men and women, boys and girls, of whatever walk of life, from childhood on up to old age.

A rigorous, well-structured method

For each discipline taught in the Tokitsu-ryu Academy, there is a series of manuals that explain the exercises and base techniques, identifying the historical, philosophical and cultural concepts involved. Accompanying videos and DVDs are also planned.
These teaching materials are designed to supplement the courses taught in our certified dojos, but cannot be used as a substitute for them.

Practitioners of this method are made aware of the next level that they should attain. Our grades system is important in that it allows each practitioner to gauge his or her progress over time.
Progress is marked by the achievement of grades or levels specific to each discipline. There are 4 grades in Jisei-kiko, 10 grades in Jisei-budo and 5 in Jisei-taichi.
For each level of progress in Jisei-taichi and Jisei-budo, the practitioner is given a work programme explaining in each case the area of technical study (based on the relevant manual) as well as the degree of perfection required.
The official teaching programme sets forth the criteria for judging each level, the scale of exercises, as well as the mention obtained depending on total points earned.

A commission composed of the regional technical director and the principal teacher(s) concerned confers black belt grades and beyond in the presence of the founding Master, Kenji Tokitsu. Examinations take place in strict accordance with the rules laid down in the official teaching programme.
